God Is Greater and Bigger Still

Have you ever felt surrounded? Surrounded by all the things that troubles you, pressures you or scares you. It can be too much. It can feel like the whole world is conspiring against you. It can make you feel that you have nowhere to go, powerless to do what you need to do. In times like that, how can you overcome the very things that surround you?

In 2 Kings 6, the King of Aram was very angry at Elisha and he ordered his army to surround the city that he’s in, to take him down.

“Go, find out where he is,” the king ordered, “so I can send men and capture him.” The report came back: “He is in Dothan.” Then he sent horses and chariots and a strong force there. They went by night and surrounded the city. 2 Kings 6:13-14

The servant of Elisha got up early in the morning and saw that they were surrounded by horses and chariots ready to take them down. He didn’t know what to do so he came to Elisha.

When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked. 2 Kings 6:15

And then Elisha responded with a bold declaration in the midst of whatever is surrounding them.

Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them. And Elisha prayed, Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see. Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 2 Kings 6:16

Notice that Elisha didn’t say, “Oh, man, there’s not an army out there. We’re not surrounded. There’s nothing to worry about.” He wasn’t in denial, and God doesn’t want you to be in denial either.

I love this story. It reminds me that whatever is surrounding me right now, it is no match to what is surrounding them. May it be an army of problems, an army that tells me I can’t make it through, may it be financial lack or whatever stress and pressures that are around me, my enemies are no match to the God that is with me and for me.

What do you see right now surrounding your life? What are you facing today? Is it too overwhelming to see?

Whatever it is, don’t deny it. Yet, however big your challenge is, don’t stop believing that God is bigger still. My prayer for you is the same prayer that Elisha prayed for his servant. That God will open your eyes that you may see, that who you are with, is greater and bigger than whatever is surrounding you. God’s got an army surrounding your enemies. It is protecting you from all harm and danger. Your enemies can’t take you down. You are surrounded by an even greater force. It is an army of angels surrounding you. It’s so amazing to know that no matter what the circumstance is, our God is greater than all and bigger than all.

It’s so amazing to know that no matter what the circumstance is, our God is greater than all and bigger than all.
