I’m a dad now. My wife and I, just recently, had our firstborn. Our life has never been the same again. Our new-born son has been a source of joy to us. I like to describe our life now as a “beautiful mess”. It’s a mess because of how our son now gets all our attention. As a result, our room is a mess, our bed is a mess, our drawer is a mess, our whole house is a mess. Haha! Yet, at the same time, it’s a beautiful season for both of us, as newbie parents. We couldn’t ask for more. Our son is God’s undeserved gift to both of us.

This new season that I have as a father made me reflect about certain things. I never looked at life the same way again. I see our life and my relationship with God in a whole new perspective. I just wanted to share one thought that I’ve been reflecting about since our son came into the picture.
There’s a chapter in the Bible that had a completely different meaning to me now than it did before. Not that I didn’t understand it before, but now I understand it at a new different light. There are verses in Psalm 121 that really just reminded me of who God is and how He assures us of His presence everyday.
Psalm 121:3-8
3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you—
the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
Let me break it down…
3 He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber; 4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
Every night, is my shift. My wife and I take turns in watching over our little boy. She currently stays with him during the day and when I get home from work at the evening, my turn to watch over him starts. It usually lasts until early in the morning (unless I fall asleep before our son does). Every time it’s my turn, I do my best to really watch over him until he falls asleep. I do everything I can to check on him, attend to his needs and to stay awake. Yet, one thing I realize, no matter how hard I try, there are times that I would struggle to stay awake. I get sleepy, at least for a few minutes. I get tired and I snooze off. I’m not always 100 percent present and engaged during my shifts, but one time when I was reading this verse during one of those nights, I instantly felt it in my heart, that it was God speaking to me. Those were one of those times that I heard him loud and clear.
God reminded me that He is not like me. That He doesn’t sleep on me. He watches over me, fully engaged. He’s always there and He always sees what I’m going through. I may fail as a dad to my son in terms of watching over him, but the reason I can rest with peace, is because I know there’s a God who watches over our family. He will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you— the Lord is your shade at your right hand; 6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life;
It dawned on me that God is a God who watches over us, whether we see it or not, whether it makes sense or not, He is always at work. Just because things are not going well in our life right now it doesn’t mean, He’s not watching over us. He knows, He sees, He listens and He stays with us no matter what. At the same time, He doesn’t just watch over us from a far. He is not a God who is just passively watching but unable to do something. Most of the time, the greatest thing he does for us, is to stay with us, letting us know that the God of the universe is willing to go through life with us, whether we’re up or we’re down, He is with us. If there’s anything I learned about taking care of my son, it’s that, there are times that he will still cry in spite of everything that I already did to attend to his needs. And in that moment, I will realize that all that he needs is the assurance that I’m there. He needs me to let him know that I’m watching over him.

8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Lastly, I’ve seen my son come into this world. I was there before he was here, and I was there when he finally came out into this world. But I also realized that I may not be around when he finally says goodbye to this world and that’s okay because I know, God will be. God was there, watching over my son in his coming and He will still be there in his going. God is the only one constant in our lives. That gives me peace not only as a parent but as a person who is assured of the same thing.
So when was the last time you lost your peace because things got out of your control?
When was the last time you felt that you were all alone? Not sure if any one’s out there watching and knows what you’re going through?
Are you currently afraid and anxious, so you’re doing everything that you can to defend and help yourself?
Give it a rest. You’ll never find peace, if you’ll always look for it somewhere else. God wants to remind you, that He knows, He sees, He listens and He’s doing something far more than you can imagine.
Remember, God won’t sleep on you.

Was looking forward for a blog like this with Brave in it!😊
