I love super hero movies with power lines that I can reflect on. When I watch movies, I always try to relate or connect it to a greater truth in my walk with God. And in the latest Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War, there are some lines that stuck in my mind, and I want to share it with you, along with my reflections. Don’t worry, there are no spoilers here.
The first is from Tony Stark:
“If we can’t accept limitations, we’re no better than the bad guys.”
Well, there’s truth in there. If we think we can live a life with no boundaries and limitations that are set for ourselves, then we probably are set to go in the wrong direction. Boundaries and limitations are there to actually protect us from what can cause harm to us. We are to honor, respect, and protect the boundaries that are set in our lives. I’ve written a blog post about it which you can read here.
Another quote is from Black Panther. I can’t really remember the exact words he said, but it went something like this:
“I’m tired of allowing it (revenge) to kill me, too.”
Revenge, anger, hatred—these can be small monsters that eat us up from the inside. Nothing good comes out of a life full of those things. You’ll always be the loser if you allow revenge to control you. Don’t let it happen. Now, if you haven’t watched the movie yet, it’s up to you to know who Black Panther is speaking to and the story behind it.
Lastly, a quote from General Ross, who was last seen in The Incredible Hulk in 2008:
“You’ve operated with unlimited power and no supervision. That’s something the world can no longer tolerate.”
Again, it is a statement that’s a bit familiar in most super hero movies, wherein, the inseparable role of power and responsibility is emphasized. I really doesn’t need much explanation. It simply reminds us that as we are given greater power and position, it is always supposed to come with a greater sense of responsibility. Now that’s something to think about as leaders, right?
I know there are more power lines in the movie that I forgot. These are just some of them that caught my attention. Do let me know if you know any lines from the movie that worth reflecting on. And please, go watch the movie! In my opinion, it is the best Marvel movie yet. Watch the trailer below:
